Louis Vuitton you are not going to shop at Payless?

DO they have insurance and what kind of equipment do they use?

Choose someone who's a professional, not just anyone with a "nice" digital camera and a website. Good wedding photographers pay taxes, carry insurance and invest in high-end gear and professional-grade printing.

DOES THE PHOTOGRAPHER FIT THE STYLE OF WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR (SOFT AND DREAMY, DARK AND MOODY, COLORFUL AND DRAMATIC, ETC)?

How your pictures will look is the style of post-production that the studio employs.
Maybe you love sharp and contrast-y, dramatic and moody. Maybe you love bright and creamy dreamy images. This something you have to decide for yourself as it is personal preference.
Most describe my style as bright and creamy and dreamy with a little pop. I love glowing light and color, but I also cant help but swoon over classic, iconic black and whites.
I specialize is timeless post production techniques and most describe my shooting style as fine art/photojournalistic.

Are the images consistent in color and quality?

Color correction is a basic post-production that should be used on every single image. Many photographers will not color correct any, or will only color correct “select” images from your wedding. This means that you may have a lot of pictures where your skin tones are orange, yellow, red or even blue.
Every single image from your wedding is color correct and edited by me to ensure each and every image is a professional quality product.

Not too dark, too bright, green, orange, etc...

DO THE PHOTOGRAPHS HAVE AN ALTERED COLOR OR OVER-DONE, HEAVY EDITING TO THEM THAT'S NOT NATURAL OR TIMELESS?

Sometimes brides and grooms fall for the trendy styles in photography. However, it's critical that you remember your wedding images need to stand the test of time. Trends can be fun but rarely last. Look for a photographer with a generally classic shooting style, and be wary of too much Photoshop and digital tricks and manipulations.

DO YOU NOTICE WRINKLES, BLEMISHES, UNATTRACTIVE ANGLES, AWKWARD POSES OR DISTRACTING BACKGROUNDS IN THE PICTURES?

The best photographers know how to find the best locations and lighting for portraits. They know how to capture moments without being obtrusive, but they also know when to give direction when needed to get the best moments and shots from the day. They know how make their couples relax, act natural and be in the moment.
If they know what they are doing, all that is required of you as a couple is to just be hopelessly in love with each other. The pictures will turn out amazing.

DOES THE PHOTOGRAPHER GUARANTEE THAT THEIR 2ND PHOTOGRAPHER WILL PROVIDE THE SAME QUALITY OF IMAGES?

If they're hiring an associate, is it a talented colleague or a random freelancer? Make sure you know who will be holding the camera on your wedding day, and that they're committed to treating you like a VIP.
A good way to ensure this is the case is to ask to view an entire proofing gallery and make sure that the quality of the photography is consistent throughout.

DO ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHERS WEDDINGS HAVE STYLE THE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR?

The photographers photos should have a consistent style throughout their portfolio. (not some bright and airy and crisp and some dark and moody and matte.)

Your wedding album is your first family heirloom. The legacy you will leave to your children and grandchildren and generations to come!
Make sure the quality will stand the test of time.

The seam of the pages should not have any cracking, pinking or discoloration of any kind.

The corners and sides of the pages should not be peeling up.

WHILE VIEWING THE BOOK CLOSED AND LOOK AT THE SIDES OF THE PAGES. THERE SHOULD BE NO WAVING OR WARPING.

LOOK AT THE PRINTING ITSELF. IT SHOULD BE JUST AS COLORFUL AND VIBRANT AND THE SAME QUALITY OF THE IMAGES YOU SAW ON THEIR WEBSITE.

EXPERIENCE

.  Here are some things you may want to ask.

-

HAVING EXPERIENCED WEDDING PROFESSIONALS BY YOUR SIDE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY IS INVALUABLE. IT is IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT A PRICE TAG ON EXPERIENCE.  Your photographer needs to be able to anticipate moments, be flexible on the spot, know how to help you schedule your day-of TIMELINE , and be confident and able to deliver quality in any lighting condition.

Have you ever photographed a wedding like mine?

What do you do if ________ happens on my wedding day?

Do you put together family photos?

Meaning,  "Have you photographed a (Indian, Jewish, traditional, Ethnic, etc.) before?"  This can be crucial to them knowing how and what shots to get.
Understand however, this doesn't mean if they have photographed at your venue. Location is irrelevant to an to an experienced photographer as lighting and conditions change minute to minute throughout the day. But having them have experience in your type of wedding can be important to capturing special moments during the ceremony or ceremonies.

This should not be something You are worrying about or dealing with the day of your wedding! Your photographer should discuss with you what family shots you want before the wedding and make suggestions as to what shots to get based on your family members and the amount of time you have for pictures. Eight weeks before the wedding, my brides receive a questionnaire from me that will ask them to list out the family formals they want me to capture.

Fill in the blank with anything crazy situation you can think of that may happen at your wedding. An experienced wedding photographer has been through a lot of interesting situations and should be able to answer quickly on their feet. They may even have some funny stories to share.

- the seam of the pages should not have any cracking, pinking or discoloration of any kind.

- the corners and sides of the pages shouls not be peeling up.

- WHile viewing the book closed and look at the sides of the pages. there should be no waving or warping.

- Look at the printing itself. It should be just as colorful and vibrant and the same quality of the images you saw on their website.

Your wedding album is your first family heirloom that you'll pass on to your children and grandchildren and will be in your family's homes for generations to come.  make sure the quality  will stand the test of time.
Here is what to look for.

 Service

OK. So maybe the Photographer check all points in 1, 2, and 3 but you may still end up with a horrible Over all experience.
Did you know some brides go 3 months without seeing their wedding proofs and years before they get their album?!!! Here's what to ask to make sure that doesn't happen to you:

How long will it be to see the proofs?

Are they a boutique studio?

If a wedding photographer or studio tell you that it will take 6 months to a year before you receive your photos, run! There is no reason it should ever take that long to get your photos. After the wedding  I’ll edit the images and upload them in an online gallery. I have one of the fastest turn-around times in the wedding industry with proofs ready in 3-4 weeks and the majority of my couples with their wedding album within 6 months. I’ve even been known to show a few sneak peek images before that 3-4 week mark too!

Your wedding is unique and important and your photographer should agree. Many studios take on 100 or more weddings a year and send whatever Photographer is available at the time. You have no idea who they are sending to you or what their experience level is. You don't want to be one of the 100 brides they're photographing that year. The advantage to having a "Boutique-style" photographer (one that shoots less than 30 weddings a year on average) is that you'll receive more attention and care each step of the way. Your wedding photographs will tell your individual love story and show your unique personality as a couple rather than a cookie-cutter style that is done the same way at every wedding.
